Last February, millions of Texans lost power for days as power grids were unable to provide the natural gas necessary. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, 246 Texans died as a result. Nearly one year later, Governor Greg Abbott has been touting major improvements to the grid, and he said that the power will stay on for his state’s residents this winter.
Some experts disagree that enough has changed for Abbott to make that guarantee. We spoke with Phil Jankowski, reporter covering politics and infrastructure at Dallas Morning News, about the Texas power grid and its readiness for the winter months ahead.
